By trading away Middleton's $31.7 million salary for Kuzma’s $23.5 million (plus part of his 15% trade kicker), the Bucks have reduced their luxury tax bill by nearly $30 million this season and avoided crossing the second luxury tax apron, which could benefit them in postseason play.

The fact that they are making such moves suggests an acknowledgment that this team may not be in contention for a championship right now. Since pairing Lillard with Giannis, it appears the only way to regain title hopes is either through Middleton returning to full health or trading him for another star player—options that currently seem off the table.

Khris Middleton has shown signs of improvement recently, scoring over 20 points in three out of four games after struggling post-surgery on both ankles earlier this season. However, during Milwaukee’s recent road trip where they went just 1-3, he failed to score in two losses.
